This is a half day course in which participants will be introduced to basic Internet Protocol and computer networking concepts related to the use of Wesco Anixter Security and Communications products

Description
Topics covered include IP addressing and protocols, network address translation (NAT), domain name system (DNS), switches, routers and firewalls, port forwarding as well as tools and basic troubleshooting techniques for networks.

Prerequisites
This is a beginner’s course, no prerequisites are required.

Objectives

  • Understand static, DHCP and APIPA IP Addresses and how these are assigned and managed.
  • Understand basic sub-netting concepts as well as gateway use.
  • Understand Public vs Private Networks and how NAT operates.
  • What does DNS do and how it relates to Security and Communications devices.
  • The role played by switches, routers and firewalls in the Network.
  • Port forwarding configuration and why it is needed.
  • Tools and troubleshooting on a Network.
