VLAN Programming and Switch Configuration

This is a half day course in which participants will be introduced to basic switch set up and the creation and use of VLAN’s on Grandstream data switches. The course fee includes a Grandstream GWN7801P 8 Port PoE switch for each participant.

  • Participants should bring their own laptop (Windows 10 or Windows 11. Macs not easily compatible) Laptop should have an RJ45 Network and USB-A ports.

Description
Topics covered include VLAN theory covering the OSI model, VLAN packet structure as well as collision and broadcast domains. Hands on exercises will be done on switch basic configuration and VLAN set up, operation and testing.

Prerequisites
Participants should have done the IP Protocol and Computer networking concepts course or have a good understanding of the IP protocol and use of a computer.

Prior use of Putty terminal emulation as well as Hikvision SADP is recommended though not essential.

Objectives

  • Understand VLAN operations in the OSI model.
  • Understand the origins of Ethernet, collision and broadcast domains.
  • Understand the link types available on switches.
  • Set up a Grandstream switch, look at functions available and program VLAN’s.
  • Test VLAN operations with Cameras and phones.
